Why Therapy?

Life is hard and it certainly doesn’t come with a manual. For the most part, we go through life trying to emulate what we see and hear hoping that it will work for us, and most times…..it doesn’t. That’s when you have to do something different. Everyone is on their own journey in life and what works for some, may not work for others. Where some are swimming, other people are slowly drowning. I want to not only help you stay afloat, but provide you with the tools, encouragement, and empowerment to swim your way back to the surface, if you do happen to sink.

What does that mean? It means helping you unpack all of those boxes you have stored in your mental attic. You know, the ones you created every time you had to compartmentalize in order to function. The ones that release little tidbits of dust at random and even inappropriate times just to settle on the surface of your actions and thoughts.

It means calling you out on dysfunctional and unhealthy ways of thinking and behaving, and holding you accountable for the role you play in your mental health.
It means offering a nonbiased ear and untethered support for you on your journey. It means offering different perspectives to help you figure out what works best for you. And it means offering tools and resources to cement and assist you in clearing out your  mental attic.

I’m not saying it will be easy but it is definitely worth it. I hope to see you soon!

Our Mission

We seek to alleviate mental suffering in clients by promoting a positive sense of self and self-esteem. We aim to help clients explore and process their lives and feelings, identify maladaptive and/or unhealthy behaviors, and find effective ways to correct those behaviors. In addition we want to educate our clients on new ways to process and cope. We want you to be whole and settled within your own skin. We want you to have inner peace.

I started speaking with Ellen 9 months ago and at the time I was very depressed and struggling with low self-esteem. I had recently ended a long-term relationship and I was having issues with family members. Since working together I’ve began to have a more positive outlook on life, and I feel like we have worked through so many issues in different ways. Ellen is honest caring respectful and when appropriate adds her sense of humour which I am grateful for. She is an amazing therapist and I enjoy every session with her. Thank you for everything that you’ve helped me with and the guidance you’ve offered.
As her profile says, she doesn’t beat around the bush. I believe that is the best way to be in therapy. She offers an understanding and caring perspective that comes with a ‘let’s get real’ manner of discussion. I would absolutely recommend her to anyone needing couples counseling!
Working with Ellen has been so, for lack of a better word, therapeutic. She listens well but she isn't just a sounding board; she is incredibly insightful and has a knack for asking the right questions at the right moment. She challenges me and pushes me to grow but it always feels like she's on my side. Most importantly, I feel like I'm making progress through working with her.

Her style, with me, has been largely conversational. We laugh often but I've cried too. No matter how our conversations go, I feel safe, supported and respected.

Just because you've been one way your whole life, doesn't mean you have to be that way for the rest of your life.
